Bookkeeper – The Shepherd’s Hand (Montrose, CO)

Position Summary


The Shepherd’s Hand is a faith-based nonprofit serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness or economic hardship in Montrose. We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial tasks of our organization. This role helps ensure our resources are handled responsibly so we can continue providing meals, support, and hope to our community.


Key Responsibilities

• Process invoices, track expenses, and assist with managing cash flow.

• Record donations, rental income, grants, and awards; prepare weekly deposits; support reporting required by funders.

• Complete monthly bank reconciliations and assist with preparing financial statements.

• Process payroll, remit payroll liabilities, and support compliance with federal and state requirements, including year-end W-2s and 1099s.

• Assist with annual donor acknowledgments, nonprofit filings, and grant-related financial reporting.

• Help maintain financial procedures to support accuracy and transparency.

• Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with staff, board members, donors, and external partners.


Qualifications

• Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or nonprofit finance (2+ years preferred).

• Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.

• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.

• High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Familiarity with nonprofit accounting, donor tracking, or grant reporting is a plus.

• Alignment with the mission and values of The Shepherd’s Hand.


Work Schedule & Compensation

Part-time: Approximately 12–20 hours per week, with potential for additional hours as the organization grows.  Hybrid/remote flexibility may be available; some on-site work required.

Compensation: $25+ per hour, DOE.
